Troubleshooting

Welcome to the troubleshooting page. Before making a maintenance request, see if any of these solutions work.

My engine won't start

  1. Is the safety lanyard (kill switch) attached to the engine or throttle control? If not, attach it.

  2. Check that the throttle or shift lever is in the center "neutral" position.

  3. Is the primer bulb or fuel tank flat/compressed? Check that the vent on the top of the fuel tank cap is turned all the way left to the open position. If just the just bulb is compressed, check the fuel line connection as mentioned above.

  4. Is the primer bulb firm? If not, inspect the connection from the gas tank to the fuel line to ensure it is clipped on, remove and reattach the fuel line to the tank if neceessary (you should feel it click into place).

  5. Is the fuel level low? If so, it's possible the engine is pulling air and stalling as a result. Aquire a new tank of gas and prime the bulb until firm.

  6. Are the battery terminals tight? Visually inspect the battery/ cable connections and wiggle the wire to see if there is any movement. If you have an ajustable wrench or multi tool, carefully tighten the nuts on the batter one at a time being careful to never touch both + and - at the same time.

The gas is leaking

  1. Determine the source of the leak

  2. If it's coming from the gas tank itself, ensure the vent is open and release pressure by carefully unscrewing the gas cap. Re-tighten the cap and monitor the tank for further leaks

  3. If the leak is detected on the fuel line, please shut off your engine and radio VHF channel 74 to inform the maintenance department. This can generally be fixed without coming back to the dock.

  4. If the leak source is unidentifiable or on the engine body, please turn off your engine and radio to 74 for assistance.

My motor died

Is the fuel tank empty?

Is the primer bulb firm? If not, check the fuel line/ tank connection

Is the motor stalling only when put into gear? If so, turn off the engine and tilt up to reveal the tangled line in your propellor.

My boat wont go full speed

  1. Is the primer bulb or fuel tank flat/compressed? Check that the vent on the top of the fuel tank cap is turned all the way left to the open position. If just the just bulb is compressed, check the fuel line connection on the gas tank.

  2. Is the fuel level low? If so, it's possible the engine is pulling air and stalling as a result. Aquire a new tank of gas and prime the bulb until firm.

  3. If this doesnt solve the probem fill out a maintenance request form specifying the boat name and issue. Please include the conditions under which the problem happens (for example, after the boat has been running for one hour).
